“You’re doing pretty well for a large lady” an 80 year old said as he passed me on the run of my first Ironman (a long distance swim/bike/run race). I have been large ever since I was a child and I have tried seemingly everything to lose weight. Some people yo-yo diet–meaning they will lose weight and then gain it all or more back and then repeat. But I just didn’t lose it to begin with. I read a lot about eating healthy and ate what I thought was a very healthy diet and stopped worrying about the weight. I have always been active, and I continued to build physical fitness with increased passion for the sport of triathlon.
But there was something about that statement from the aged athlete, coupled with recommendations from the triathlon community, that led me to trying “one more thing” for weight loss. I began working with a health coach, and it has changed my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. I have lost some weight since starting on that journey, and I believe that I will slowly continue to lose. I have also lost several inches around my middle. But even more importantly, and more life changing for me, I have found a way of eating and a relationship with food that has me FEELING GREAT. I have more energy, I am better able to manage stress, and the work I have done starting with the health coach has boosted my personal happiness in all areas of my life.
As I explored my own interests, I discovered that I have a deep passion to do the work that my coach is doing. In March 2017, I started as a student at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the same school that my coach started at. It is a year long training program and I loved every minute of it. I feel that I have found meaningful work in health coaching and I look forward to continued learning and working with more and more people. In 2010 I graduated from law school, and I continue to work as an attorney ‘by day’, but I look forward to working with individuals as a health coach when I can.
If you have goals around health and wellness, I want to work with you to help you achieve them. If you just want more information to navigate all of the conflicting information out there, I want to help you do that. Or if you need that boost to finally start consistently doing what you know you should be doing to be healthier and happier, I want to provide that accountability and together we can figure out the tools to make that long lasting change so that it becomes your new habit; your new, healthier and happier you. I discovered in 2013 that I have a gluten intolerance, so if your doctor has told you to remove gluten, or if you think that you might be gluten intolerant, I have the background to help you navigate your new world, or to help you to decide if you are intolerant or not. Additionally, as an Ironman triathlete, I have experience eating to fuel long workouts and an active lifestyle. I believe in a very clean approach without the added sugars in conventional sports nutrition products. If this is something that interests you, I would love to assist.
